Hello Halloween!

**** Due to some forces unknown the pictures have gone missing, sorry for that! ****

Hello Halloweeners. Thinking about Halloween gets me all nostalgic. Maybe it's because here in Holland they don't really know how to celebrate it, or maybe it's because i'm used to the real deal, like trick-or-treating, and pumpking carving.

They sell alot of decorations and stuff, witches, ghouls and pumpkins, but that's where it ends, it's just not the same. For me it feels like decorating a palm tree for Christmas. You could say it misses what the French call: I don't know what.

I guess I could say that I'm pretty into the dark and the occult. Vampires, witchcraft, classic horror movies and spirits have always interested me, and All Hallows Eve is pretty much all about that.

Redheaded witch and her minion?

I can remember my sister and I soldiering along in the already fallen snow in Bemidji, Minnesota, dressed up as god knows what, which didn't really matter since it was sooo cold we had to wear 6 layers, snowboots and a coat just to make it to the car.
And then, when the long anticipated time arrived to compare the sugar-induced treasures we aquired, we find out that we each have enough candy to last us till Easter. And it usually did.

I am thrilled that my appeal on Facebook resulted in a very nice lady named Kathy offering to send my sister and I some real H'ween candy, so we can show these crazy Dutchonians how it's really done!! We aint sharing our candy though, that goes against the sacred candy rule. Duh.

Unfortunately I don't have any Halloween photo's from the good ol' glory days, I have however found a few antique ones, personal and and from the 1900-1922's.

And now for the real scary stuff:

My frightening friend, Karina, '98/'99

Ok, this wasn't really a Halloween costume, but I loooved to (and still do) dress up. In this pic I had written my own play. I can't remember what it was about, but it must've been really good for us to wear our Sunday best. Eat your heart out Shakespeare.
Happy Halloween!
